On 30 May 1914 federal General Luis Medina Barrón decreed a loan to be covered by the issue of $250,000 in bonos, of forced circulation in the state. The Executive was also empowered to contract to borrow up to $250,000, in which case the bonos would not be issued or those that had been issued would be redeemedPeriódico Oficial, Tomo LII, Núm. 44, 3 June 1914.
However, on 23 June Pancho Villa's División del Norte (Division of the North) decisively defeated Luis Medina Barrón’s troops defending Zacatecas. This great victory demoralized Huerta's supporters, leading to his resignation on 15 July.
