Gobierno Provisional de México Veracruz $20 notes

These were all Series D and dated 1 December 1914.

(1) In his notice of 28 September 1915 the Jefe de Hacienda in Puebla, José Mayoral, said that there were three different printings of $20 notes. The first were identifiable by not having the word 'PESOS' superimposed on the '20'. These have the imprint 'MEXICO OFICINA DEL GOBIERNO', title 'EL O. M. ENCARGADO DEL SRIA. DE HACIENDA', underprint Type 2 and flat base ‘2’s on front and reverse.

In its notification the Jefatura de Hacienda in Puebla said that with the second printing the word PESOS was added to the corner figures and the ‘medallion’ in the centre had the peso sign entwining the numerals. A third impression bears a circular seal (sello de lacre) on the reverse stating SECRETARIA DE HACIENDA – TESORERIA DE LA FEDERACION with VERACRUZ in the centre.

(2a) One type had imprint 'OFICINA DEL GOBIERNO', title 'EL O. M. ENCARGADO DEL SRIA. DE HACIENDA', underprint Type 2 and curved flat base ‘2’s on front and reverse.

The change in the design of the counters caused some concern. Thus, the authorities in Puebla asked if the $20 without the word “pesos” were legitimate and was told that they were. It issued a circular to put an end to any unjustified distrust, and to warn businesses and individuals that they had to be received as legal, forced currency. Puebla sent copies of its circular to Tetela de Ocampo on 7 June AMTet, Gobierno 1914, caja 429.
