The 4,000 $500 notes ordered by the bank were dispatched from New York on 12 August 1914AGN, SC226 Comisión Monetaria, caja 104 statement from ABNC, 6 February 1931 and were still stuck in Veracruz in September 1914AGN, SC226 Comisión Monetaria, caja 104 and never used.
These seem to have been used as movie money and when they ran out imitations were printed.
This led to further regressions. This was either for the movie industry or the souvenir trade (kudos for bothering to change the denomination to CINCUENTA PESOS).
