$50 dos caritas
All the fifty pesos notes are Series F and were hand signed by Treasurer Vargas and Interventor Muñoz. The sequence was as follows:
Maverick-Clarke printing
15,000 notes printed by Maverick-Clarke and dispatched on 8 May 1914. These were Series F, numbered 1 to 15000, and were stamped with a black circular Tesorería seal, red scalloped Ejército Constitucionalista seal and Type 1 vertical control letters on back. The only control letters used were XIV-A F-XIVThough perhaps the future sequence was intended to be:
I-F A-I
II-R L-II
III-A L-III
IV-N I-IV
V-C V-V
VI-I O-VI
VII-S C-VII
VIII-C S-VIII
IX-O I-IX
X-V C-X
XI-I N-XI
XII-L A-XII
XIII-L R-XIII
XIV-A F-XIV.
First Norris Peters printing
30,000 notes printed by Norris Peters under the 18 July 1914 contract, begun on 4 August and dispatched on 29 August 1914. These were Series F, numbered 15001 to 45000 and were stamped with a black circular Tesorería seal and horizontal Type 3b control letters on the back
A-VXCII | B-XXCIII B-XXCVIII |
C-VVIXI | D-CVIIII D-CXVVI |
E-XXXCVII |
and then purple circular Tesorería seal and horizontal Type 3b control letters on the back
F-XXX | G-XCVI | H-VVXCII | I-CCC | J-VVIC | K-MDC | |
L-DCV |
It is easy to see how B-XXCVIII could be an error for B-XXCIII but harder to explain the two ‘D’s. There is a known error: F-MXX for F-XXX.
Second Norris Peters printing
30,000 notes printed by Norris Peters under the 8 October contract and dispatched on 23 October 1914LG papers, 2-F-36, letter from S. M-DCL | N-CLM | O-MXI | P-IXM | R-XMX |
N-CSM is also known and is possibly an error for N-CLM.
