Private issues ( San José del Cabo)

In November 1914 Teniente Gabino Manzilla, Jefe del Destacamento in San José del Cabo stated that from 18 November local businesses were authorised to issue 'boletos' of 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and one peso. These should have the stamp or signature on one side and in the centre the stamp of the Subprefectura Política, where the business should deposit a sum equivalent to the issueABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150.

According to receipts Guadalupe R. Montaño issued $100 on 27 November, $15 on 30 November and $160 on 6 DecemberABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150.

On 4 April 1915 San José del Cabo reported that merchants had $1,004 in vales (Roberto Fiol $300, Yee Sang $200, John Cozzulo $24, Arturo Canseco $260, Santiago Ceseña $100, Eduardo Monet $80.00 and Manuel Galindo $40ABCS, Gobernación, vol. 648, exp. 106. On 5 April Ortega sent a circular to the Presidente Municipales of Mulegé and Comundú and the Alcalde Municipal of Santa Rosalía that in accordance with the agreement of 31 March businesses could give change in the same money as the purchaser used or with vales issued by the various casas comerciales, on the understanding that the casas informed the Jefatura of the amounts issuedABCS, Gobernación, vol. 648, exp. 106.

On 10 April Ortega asked the Presidentes Municipales of Todos Santos, Santiago, San José del Cabo and  El Triunfo what quantities of vales for 5c, 10, 20c and 50c each merchant neededABCS, Gobernación, vol. 648, exp. 106. On 12 April San José del Cabo replied that five merchants had asked for $850 in valesABCS, Gobernación, vol. 648, exp. 106. On 25 April Subprefecto Pólitico E R Encinas reminded La Paz of its message of 12 AprilABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150 and Ortega replied the next day that he would send the vales within two daysABCS, Gobernación, vol. 648, exp. 106.

On 2 May the Jefatura Política sent San José del Cabo a total of $452.20 in vales.It could not send the total amount requested as it did not have enough special paperABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150 and so sent only $452.15ABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150 E. R. Encino, Subprefecto Político, to Secretario de Gobierno, 9 May 1915. Tn 4 May the Subprefecto Político, E. R. Encino, reminded Ortega of the lack of small changeABCS, Gobernación, vol. 642, exp. 150. Santiago Ceseña

In 1897 Ceseña owned the Restauración hacienda which grew sugarcane and produced panocha, a coarse grade of sugar.
