1986 elections for state Governor
In the 1986 Chihuahua gubernatorial elections the contenders were Fernando Baeza Meléndez for the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and Francisco Barrio Terrazas for the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN). Barrio was the clear favourite so when Baeza won, there were complaints of fraud. Some people began to overprint bank notes with political slogans, until the government ordered their demonetization, giving a few days to exchange the overprinted notes for new ones.
