Federal bonos

On 30 May 1914 federal General Luis Medina Barrón decreed a loan to be covered by the issue of $250,000 in bonos, of forced circulation in the state. The bonds would be guaranteed by the taxes on mining production, and 75% of these would be dedicated to their redemption from July 1915 onwards. They would be accepted in the Dirección General de Rentas and public offices for payments of any kind (for up to 50% of the amount owed). The government would lay down in a special law the details (format, denominations and terms and conditions) of the bonds and appoint one or more inspectors to oversee their issue etc. However, none of these bonds are known, which suggests that they were never issued.

The Executive was also empowered to contract to borrow up to $250,000, in which case the bonos would not be issued or those that had been issued would be redeemedPeriódico Oficial, Tomo LII, Núm. 44, 3 June 1914.

Medina Barrón was interim governor from 20 February to 14 June 1914, when he was succeeded by Manuel Carlos de la Vega, who might have rescinded the order.

On 23 June Pancho Villa's División del Norte (Division of the North) decisively defeated Luis Medina Barrón’s troops defending Zacatecas. This great victory demoralized Huerta's supporters, leading to his resignation on 15 July.
