Billetes Provisionales of 1842
On 28 April 1842 Francisco Mejía, the governor of Coahuila, informed the federal government that the ayuntamiento of Saltillo had issued billetes provisionales to reduce the circulation of the old copper coinage. On 11 March 1842 the Ministro de Hacienda replied that the provisional President, Antonio López de Santa Anna, had approved of the issue, had ordered the mint to provide Coronel Rafael Aguirre with $400 and had provided an escort to take the money to SaltilloACoah, Fondo Siglo XIX, 1842, caja 2, folleto 2, exp. 7.
